ScanDisk misses a bad sector due to 'Thorough' option not selected.
Cause:
The 'Thorough' option was not selected before running the scan.
Solution:
Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu, select 'Programs', and select 'Accessories'. Select 'System Tools' and select 'ScanDisk'. Select the drive to be scanned and select the 'Thorough' radio button. Click 'Start'.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Programs' and select 'Accessories'.
3) Select 'System Tools' and select 'ScanDisk'. (The 'ScanDisk' dialog box appears.)
4) Select the drive to be scanned from the 'Select the drive(s) you want to check for errors' list box.
5) Select the 'Thorough' radio button in the 'Type of test' group.
6) (Optional) To select additional advanced options:

8) Click 'Start'. (ScanDisk checks the files and folders in the selected drive(s).)
9) When finished, click 'Close'.
